Local Senior Has Wish Granted at Houston Zoo

HOUSTON, TX 10/3/2011

As the life of the party, Virginia Pipes, a resident at Hampton Post Oak in Houston, TX, always wants to include her friends in whatever fun she is having. When she requested her wish to see and touch an elephant up close, Pipes also requested her friends join her.

On Friday, Sept. 30, Brookdale Senior Living and JBWOL are sending Pipes and her two grandsons on a behind-the-scenes tour at the Houston Zoo. Pipes will help the zookeepers bathe and feed the elephants.

Staff and ten residents from Hampton Post Oak will walk through the zoo as Pipes has her wish granted. After spending the day at the zoo, Pipes and her friends from Hampton Post Oak will share stories over lunch at the Rainforest Café.

Pipes’ will be made possible by Brookdale and JBWOL, a nonprofit organization dedicated to granting life-enriching wishes to older Americans. Brookdale Senior Living has sponsored this and many other wishes granted by JBWOL.

To request her wish, Pipes filled out a wish application explaining an experience she would like to have fulfilled. Brookdale residents are encouraged to think about how that experience relates to one or more dimensions of the company’s Optimum Life® platform. The six dimensions of Optimum Life are emotional, social, physical, intellectual, spiritual and purposeful.

Brookdale’s Optimum Life® platform is geared toward cultivating whole-person wellness through fulfillment in the six key dimensions. Both Brookdale and Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime provide a helping hand in making some of the dreams of Brookdale’s residents come true. Residents at Brookdale Senior Living communities nationwide are invited to share and submit their wishes to Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime.
